Apple slices (sprinkled with cinnamon, which is proven to lower blood pressure)
Carrot sticks (even if you eat them with ranch dressing, they are healthier than processed snacks)
Vegetables dipped in hummus (did you know hummus is really easy to make?)
Celery with peanut butter or cream cheese
Pumpkin seeds
Nuts
Trail mix (even with some chocolate in it, it's much better than Cheezits and Cheetos)
Triscuit crackers (they only have 3 ingredients! Whole wheat winter flour, soybean oil, and salt!)
Fruit leather (check the ingredients, some brands are high in added sugars)
Hard boiled eggs
String cheese
Granola (especially homemade!)
Dried fruit (some brands add a lot of extra sugar though)
Fiber One bars (yes, they have chocolate and sugar but they are PACKED with fiber)
Applesauce (the less added sugars, the better)
Greek yogurt (especially with fruit in it!)
Fruit smoothies
Frozen grapes
Sun flower seeds
Cottage cheese and fruit
Popcorn (as long as it's not drenched in butter, of course)
Whole wheat toast
Whole wheat tortilla quesadillas
And as a general rule, if you make it yourself, it will be healthier than buying it. So if you are REALLY craving cookies, make them instead of buying them....if you use whole wheat flour and unprocessed cane sugar, you may not feel guilty at all! In my opinion, the key to getting yourself to eat healthier is VARIETY. Don't pick 5 healthy foods and eat them until you're sick of them...then you are sure to fall back into unhealthy eating habits. But if you try a lot of great, healthy foods and switch it up often, you are sure to keep your taste buds happier MUCH longer! And believe me, your body, mind, and spirit will be thanking you too!
Cucumber slices are a great snack and can be dipped in hummus, too!
